A one year delay in implementing ICD-10 from October 1, 2013 to October 1, 2014 had been much anticipated, especially since an official proposal to do so was submitted in April, 2012 by HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius. A delay would give all covered entities more time to comply and be ready for the updated coding requirements.

That anticipated delay to October 1, 2014 was made official on Friday, August 24, 2012 as explained in the 4th paragraph of the HHS press release issued that same date (www.hhs.gov/news/press/2012pres/08/20120824e.html).

ICD-10 will require several significant billing format changes as can be seen by visiting www.cms.gov/Medicare/Coding/ICD10/Medicare-Fee-for-Service-Provider-Resources.html. Even though the date is moved to October 1, 2014 you can familiarize yourself with the changes as they stand now.

ADS clients always receive updates such as ICD-10 at no additional cost as a benefit of ADS’ Support program.
