Meaningful use is the provider’s ability to demonstrate that they are actively using the capabilities in their meangingful use-certified EHR or meangingful use-certified EMR, as set forth by Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). Note: CMS is the government body tasked with establishing meaningful use critera for EHR software and EMR software systems.
Becoming a “Meaningful User”
Providers who have been using their EHR software or EMR software for at least 90 days will be able to attest to their meaningful use beginning in April 2011.
CMS has indicated that a link will be available on their website in January 2011 where providers can register their EHR or EMR usage. CMS will alert providers once this link is available. ADS will alert our own clients as well.
