Nobody picks a bad EHR on purpose. You picked the one that made sense at the time, and for a while it did the job. The problem is that podiatry has changed a lot in the last few years, and a lot of systems have not changed with it. Coding got more complicated. AI went from a gimmick to something that actually writes your note. Payers are moving to electronic prior authorization. Most podiatry practices do not have a billing problem. They have a workflow problem that shows up in billing. Revenue leaks quietly out of the cycle at a dozen different points between the moment a patient calls to schedule and the moment a payment posts to the account. Each leak looks small in isolation. A missing insurance verification step here. An unsigned encounter note there. A modifier that did not carry through from the clinical record to the claim. Individually, none of those errors feel catastrophic. Collectively, they explain why many podiatry practices collect significantly less than they are owed.

This guide covers where podiatry claims go wrong, what's changing in the fee schedule, and when it makes sense to bring in outside help.
